Permanent Makeup FAQ

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup (PMU) is a cosmetic tattooing technique where pigment is implanted into the upper layers of the skin to mimic makeup. It’s designed to look soft and natural and fades gradually over time, giving you effortless, smudge-proof results.

What services do you offer?
  1. Brows: Nano Brows, Microblading,

Powder / Ombre Brows, Combo Brows

  1. Lips: Lip Blush & Lip Neutralization
  2. Eyes: Lash Line Enhancement, Classic Eyeliner, Stardust Eyeliner

What’s the difference between Nano, Microblading, Powder, and Combo Brows?
  1. Nano Brows: Our most natural and advanced technique. I use a single-needle machine to create ultra-fine, hyper-realistic hair strokes. It's less traumatic than microblading, works for ALL skin types including oily, sensitive, and mature skin, and lasts longer.
  2. Microblading: Hair-like strokes created with a hand-held blade. Very natural and fluffy, but best for normal to dry skin.
  3. Powder / Ombre Brows: Soft, pixelated shading that mimics brow powder/makeup. More defined than hair strokes. Great for all skin types, especially oily skin.
  4. Combo Brows: The best of both — Nano hair strokes in the front with powder shading through the body and tail for definition and fullness.

What are my eyeliner options?
  1. Lash Line Enhancement: The most natural option. Pigment is placed inside your lash line to make lashes look darker, thicker, and fuller. No visible eyeliner line.
  2. Classic Eyeliner: A crisp, defined line above the lash line. Can be thin and natural or thicker with a soft wing. Your classic everyday liner, smudge-proof.
  3. Stardust Eyeliner: Our soft glam option. A soft, smoky, pixelated liner with a diffused edge that looks like perfectly smudged eyeshadow + liner. No harsh lines, no actual glitter — the soft sparkle effect comes from the shading technique. Gorgeous for hooded and mature eyes.

Will it look natural?

Yes. We custom design your shape and color for your face. It will look 30-50% darker and bolder for the first 5-7 days, then soften beautifully as it heals. Nano Brows and Lash Enhancements are our most natural results.

How long does permanent makeup last?

Brows: 1-3 years [Nano Brows typically 1.5-3 years], Lips: 2-3 years, Eyeliner: 3-5 years. Longevity depends on skin type, lifestyle, and sun exposure. You’ll need a color boost every 12-18 months to keep it fresh.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. I am licensed, bloodborne pathogen certified and follow all Maryland Department of Health regulations. All needles are single-use, sterile, and disposable. All pigments are high-quality, formulated specifically for PMU and eye-safe.

Who is NOT a good candidate?

You may not be a candidate if you are:

  1. Pregnant or nursing
  2. Under 18
  3. Undergoing chemotherapy
  4. Have uncontrolled diabetes, epilepsy, or autoimmune disorders [requires doctor clearance]
  5. Taking blood thinners or Accutane in the last 6-12 months
  6. Had Botox in the treatment area within 2 weeks
  7. Have a history of keloid scarring or are prone to cold sores [lips - antiviral required]
  8. Please message me before booking if you have any medical concerns.

Does it hurt?

Most clients rate it 2-4 out of 10. We use a high-quality topical numbing agent before and during to keep you comfortable. Lips and eyeliner are slightly more sensitive than brows.

Can I get PMU if I have previous work from another artist?

In most cases, yes. I need a clear, unfiltered photo in natural light first. If your old work is very dark, saturated, or discolored, you may need removal or color correction first.

How should I prepare?
  1. No alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen, or fish oil 24 hours before
  2. No waxing, tinting, or brow lamination for 1 week before
  3. No retinol, chemical peels, or strong exfoliants on the area for 2 weeks
  4. No lash extensions or growth serums for 1 week before eyeliner
  5. Come with your normal makeup on so I can see your preferred style
  6. Lips: Exfoliate and hydrate 3-5 days before. If you have ever had a cold sore, you MUST take antiviral medication prescribed by your doctor.

How long does the appointment take?

Plan for 2.5-3 hours. This includes consultation, custom mapping and measuring, color selection, numbing, and the procedure.

What is the healing process like?

Brows: Days 1-3: Bold and warm. Days 4-7: Light flaking/peeling. Days 7-14: Color looks very light like it disappeared. Weeks 3-6: Color blooms back to its true, soft result.

Eyeliner: Expect slight puffiness and redness for 1-2 days. Eyes may feel like you have an onion-cut feeling. No heavy flaking, but some dryness. Healed result is much softer.

Lips: Day 1-2 is the most intense swelling. Lips will peel like a sunburn on days 3-4. True color shows at 6 weeks.

What is the aftercare?
  1. No sweating, swimming, saunas, or heavy workouts for 7 days
  2. No makeup, skincare, or creams on the area for 7 days
  3. No sun, tanning, retinols, or picking/peeling
  4. Gently wash twice daily with a gentle cleanser and apply a rice-grain amount of aftercare balm only if provided
  5. A detailed aftercare email will be sent to you.

Do I need a touch-up?

Yes. A perfecting touch-up at 6 weeks is needed and NOT included in your initial price. This is where we perfect the shape, add density, and ensure longevity. Without it, results are considered incomplete.

Can I still wear regular makeup?

Of course! PMU is your effortless base. You can still fill in your brows or wear lipstick/liner for a more glam look when you want to.

How do I know which technique is right for me?

You don't need to know before you come in! At your appointment, I assess your skin type, natural hair, bone structure, and daily makeup style and will recommend the best option for you. Most clients who want the most natural brow are choosing Nano Brows, and most clients who want a soft eye are loving Stardust.
